Distributing psychedelics online is not your regular webshop operation. Strict rules and mandatory oversight by health professionals used to make this type of project unfeasible. It is basically a tangle of challenges and special requirements. But we bit hard into the problem and, together with Innerwell, made it work.
It is a long journey from the homepage to recovery:
- Screening - we have to make sure non-candidates for ketamine therapy are automatically filtered out. Humans make more checks later, but this way we save a lot of human hours.
- Purchase of the plan - think webshop but a really specced out one. Add-ons that make sense and smart subscription plans.
- Access to the platform & Onboarding - once the user is along for the ride, there is a lot to explain. The journey is finely tuned, smart and efficient.
- Meeting your clinician - real health professionals are part of the package. Establishing trust is crucial here as it is the foundation of any quality relationship.
- First ketamine session - user goes through several steps that ensure adequate preparation for a safe session: from dosage information and seater verification to curated meditative sounds and music. It all brings one extra layer of comfort and security to the session.

What we’ve done
We needed an MVP to get things going, so that’s what we delivered. A dedicated Human team used the iterative approach on its way to the final UX/UI package. After a couple of months of user testing, we successfully launched a V2 with all the bells and whistles:
- We created an intuitive and easy-to-use user experience while delivering clinical and non-clinical mental health care.
- We were guided by the user-centred principle, assuring the development of a comprehensive solution.
- An example of how we did this is the checkout process: we ensured users to effortlessly build custom care plans from their first checkout to all upcoming care decisions.
- We introduced unobtrusive follow-up plans and upsells within the app. That way, user knows what happens next and can make informed decisions.

Technology integration
An impressive number of separate integrations had to happen for the Innerwell app to be this rich in features, but quick and seamless at the same time. Magento, Formsort, Welkin Health, Cognito, Square, Sendbird, Zendesk and many more 3rd party systems were carefully built into this product. Choosing the right pieces of the puzzle was as crucial as proper integration. Planning carelessness will backfire on you every single time.
Agile methodology
We have been working Agile for this project, constantly measuring the impact and adjusting the team according to needs. It is good to be on top of the numbers and stay flexible. To this day, we expand or shrink the dedicated Innerwell team according to objective needs and client preferences.

The health platform grows, anxiety declines
Innerwell’s turnout is growing thanks to our joint efforts. Innerwell is rapidly expanding. And its patients are recovering safely, rapidly on a sustained basis. The platform tracks 70% reductions in depression scores and 60% reductions in anxiety scores. Innerwell’s personalized behavior health care model works, and we have big plans coming up.
On top of that, our focus on human-centered design ethos has started to pay off. The user experience is simple yet effective, customer feedback about the journey is highly positive, and many good ideas that will further enhance this experience are waiting to be implemented.
